Indeterminate - The Jersey Devil tomato is a unique heirloom variety known for its elongated, pepper-like shape and vibrant red color. This prolific indeterminate variety produces large, meaty fruits that can grow up to 6 inches long. With a rich, sweet flavor and minimal seeds, Jersey Devil tomatoes are ideal for making sauces, pastes, and canning.
I've been gardening for 50 years now, and I've tried A LOT of sources for supplies and many varieties. By far, the Jersey Devil is the best tomato I've ever grown for flavor, texture, production and meatiness. I've been growing them for 8 years now.
I have also been buying all of my seeds from MIGardener for many years now and for several, basic reasons: Quality, knowledge and price.
I HIGHLY recommend MIgardener and have steered multiple friends & family to them.
Such an amazing tomato. Family's favorite. Need to support the plant well. Don't cut off too many offshoots. The main stalk is quite weak.
Feels like it's a cross between a cherry tomato vine and a beef stake and it seems to thrive better when a few more branches accompany the main one. It gets pollinated better as well when it's got more branches with flowers. The leaves always look like it's wilted, even when watered, or after rain. But it's fine. 😆
Great producer. Can't wait to grow it again this year. 4th year!
As our climate has warned, my growing patterns have changed. For the past few years I've been growing tomatoes in partial shade with grand results. These were in a container, got morning sun, and were well fed. Spectacular results, kept having to add more and more ties. Be sure and pick when almost ripe and let finish on the inside.
This tomato seems dramatic to me. I’m in 7B and the leaves curl all summer long. I only got a couple of tomatoes during the hot summer. There were round holes in them unless I picked them when they were still green. ( not sure if it was insect or bird or something else). Then the weather cooled off at the end of Sept and in October and early November I got a huge amount of these. Very good tasting. Dry inside as advertised. I am going to try and plant them later in the season next year.
Not only do I love the name (Jersey Native here) but these plants rock. Very large meaty tomatoes. Can`t wait to can and make sauce! Don't sleep on these if your looking for a plum type variety!
