This delicious mustard variety originates from Tokyo, Japan. Light green frilly leaves with peppery are a rich kick in protein, vitamin K, B6, B2, A, C, E, and minerals like iron. The seeds are traditionally used to make Asian mustard, one of the most amazing mustards on the planet. Plants are cold-hardy and become more peppery as the hot weather sets in.

My Top 10!

I sowed these in a kiddie pool on October 27 here in Central Florida and harvested my first large bowl on November 26! Pest pressure is fairly light during the winter growing season, but these got nothing! They taste like a very mild mustard green, which gives them versatility for cooking or salads. I prefer a stronger flavor, but few plants get 5 stars from me, and this is one. Germination was 100%, as far as I could tell. It produced abundantly for several months, and I will grow this again for sure.

Sturdy trap plant

Great germination rate. This plant attracts more aphids and little slugs than my other plants (like pac choi, tatsoi, kale nearby) but I tend to favor those other plants. Tokyo bekana has been resilient to pest damage and even have some plants that are surviving being outside in a shady spot through winter even after getting hit by a period of snow and hard freezes. Wow!

Beautiful Mustards

A new variety for me - so happy I gave them a try! The seeds germinated quickly and the plants are healthy. They're beautiful in the garden and the bright green leaves really set them apart from the other mustards. Looking forward to making a big pot of mixed greens for Christmas dinner.
